Just watched Green Street Hooligans. It’s a wicked movie about soccer thugs and brotherhood. Think Fight Club meets Romper Stomper.. without the nazis.
The standout performance in this movie is Charlie Hunnam. He plays the leader of the soccer gang/firm that Elijah Wood’s character falls in with. I hope this guy gets huge. Elijah Wood gave a great performance as well, but I kept waiting for him to say, “Tell me more about Samwise the Strong…”
I’ve been looking for this one. I read the Ebert review awhile back and it piqued my interest. Glad to hear it passed your test.
Is the DVD out or did you see it in a theatre?
Forget my last question. I “found it”.
I really hope that guy on the ground in the bottom left doesn’t get his burberry hat all sandy.
SPOILER ALERT: The guy on the bottom left does, in fact, get his burberry hat quite sandy in this fight scene. It’s a moving and poignant moment in the film.
Football hooligan movies are the next big thing in the U.K. apparently. There’s also a movie called The Football Factory that recently came out, based on the book written by John King (who is apparently the expert on such things).
