Snowy the iPod

I know that I said in my original post about the new iPods that I had no intention of buying one, but I shouldn’t have drawn any conclusions until I held one in my hand, because that changed everything. When I went to the Toronto Apple Store to scope it out, it was impossible not to want one.

So recently, when Karissa and I were in business planning mode, I suggested that it might be time to make iPod cases for more than just the shuffle, because what do you think that means? I’m now the proud owner of an 5G iPod, all white and perfect.

It hasn’t been out of my hands much since we picked it up. My appreciation of the iPod’s physical design has always been deep, but the the way it allows you to navigate your music has been a revelation, making the MP3s feel much more tangible.

As I noted before, my relationship with music has shifted from listener to collector, and I wondered if I might benefit from a blank slate. Well, the iPod isn’t exactly that, but it plays the role well—moving over my collection has been a very revealing process, and there’s a fair-sized chunk of data that isn’t going to make the trip across. Plus, the integrated rating system will allow me to further eliminate the cruft from albums, until I’m left with only the music I want to hear. It’s all very exciting.

And not only that, I found the perfect name for it: Snowy, after Tintin’s dog. And it’s doubly funny, because my Powerbook’s name is Sunny. Isn’t that like, totally perfect?

snowy is a great name. i named mine ipody because i couldn’t come up with anything clever. i think karissa definitely should make ipod cases for more than just the shuffle. i’d be the first to buy one from her!!

I purchased the black 30G ipod video a few weeks back thinking that video was a nice feature but, I’d mainly use it for music.
In the last couple weeks it’s replaced my dvd player.
With the abundance of .m4v torrents all over the net, mp3 has taken a backseat.
