Three years ago, the comic site Savant initiated International Read A Comic Book In Public Day. Since I live in Canada and prefer to stay indoors during this particular time of the year I created an alternative, International Read A Comic Book Naked Day. This is its fourth year running, and yet I don’t think Savant’s version continued past that year. Verdict? Everyone loves to get naked.
How does this work? Simple. To celebrate simply read a comic while naked. This can be done alone, with friends, in the privacy of your own home or in the streets. Any kind of reading material is allowable and need not be pornographic. To help out those who may be comic-impaired, I have compiled a small list of online comics below. A similar list may be found at my old blog, Flat Earth.
Reading comics and getting nekkid are humanity’s two great common denominators, transcending barriers in religion, gender, race, nationality, sexual orientation and any other obstacle in the path to understanding and enlightenment. For the fate of the world, let’s get it on!
Monday Comics by Jack Cole, Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko and many other masters of the medium, courtesy of Shane Glines.
The Shadow meets The Batman. Who knows what evil lurks in your cowardly, superstitious heart?
Supersnipe. The four-colour escapades of the world’s greatest comic book collector.
Pat Parker, War Nurse. Don’t fuck with War Nurse. For real.
Vigilante by Mort Meskin. I’ve always had a soft spot for a cowboy on a motorcycle.
Briefer’s Frankenstein. One of the most wonderfully drawn comics of any age.
Help Wanted, a bronco-busting selection from Steve Ditko.
Air Wave. Fucking Air Wave. Admit it, I treat you too good, baby.
Atlas comics. Stan The Man’s pre-superhero days. Some of the links are busted, but there are a few complete stories in there if you’re willing to dig.
Little Orphan Annie. One of my all-time favourites, second only to Peanuts for comic strips.
9/11. Comic book reflections on the day the towers fell.
Atomic War and This Godless Communism. Two paranoid artifacts from the Cold War.
Thundercats. Break out the homemade nunchuks. And don’t deny you own a pair.
Shoot. Warren Ellis’ censored take on school shootings.
Jack Chick. World’s most popular cartoonist.
Canuck comics. Milestones in Canadian comic entertainment, from Cerebus to Dishman to Louis Riel and more.
And finally, Wonder Woman’s first appearance, her origin story, history of the Amazons and the little-seen Wonder Woman comic strip. A bevy of amazonian delight.
Rock out. With your cock out.
