I’m starting to feel like I’ve dropped off the planet, sitting in front of my monitor endlessly yet never posting, a creepy lurker on my own websites.
My reason is obvious for anyone that knows me, I’m as singleminded as they come, and right now all of my focus is on developing Karissa’s new site. We went minimalist while the rest of the site’s being constructed, all that’s there right now is a worklog of Karissa’s latest product, a knitting purse.
Karissa’s really been putting a lot of work into her end of things, spending a lot of time documenting her progress, updating, and yet I’m having trouble doing the same. The only thing on my mind lately is OSCommerce alternatives. AGAIN. (Without a doubt, this will be the topic of my next post.)
P.S. Can you believe I haven’t written about the Mac Mini I bought THREE weeks ago?
I can completely understand your dilema. Working with computer code is like translating another language. It never fails, this happens to me every time. You MUST lose yourself in the code or you’ll never get it done. All you think about is that code, from the moment you wake up till the minute you pass out from exhaustion. Then finally you get it all done and it’s like you’ve come out of a tunnel.
The sad part is. You’ll come back to that 2 or 3 weeks later to make a little change, and you’ll look at this code like you’ve never seen it before in your life. And in order to make any significant changes, you literally have to re-learn it all.
That’s been one of my biggest problems with this version of Karissa’s site, especially with her shopping cart. I have absolutely no idea how I modified the code, I didn’t keep track or comment in the file, nothing. It’s easier to start from scratch than figure it out.
That’s another I want to post about, I’ve recently started using Subversion to track changes and keep regular backups, and it’s made a world of difference.
Yeah, i’m bad for leaving comments in my code as well :P
Although recently I’ve been pretty ghestapo about it and every bit of the code is commented on.
